Architect Sanjay Puri doesn’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to design. Every site, every location, every space, every surrounding natural element has a say in the final design. What Puri is interested in listening attentively to what they suggest and then going back to the drawing board with those insights.

The AD100 architect features in the second episode of The Artboard, a first-of-its-kind video series by Artize, created in collaboration with Architectural Digest India.

Sanjay Puri’s design philosophy

For Puri, context matters a lot. “What you try to do is keep is contextual, keep it crisp, resolve designs where people experience something new every time,” he shares. His process is not entirely reliant on the latest software or technology, but time-tested and traditional methods.

“I spend every morning in my cabin alone only designing, and all my designing is done in the form of sketches, because I don’t think there is any software that is as fast or as quick as translating what you’re thinking in your ahead simultaneously on to paper as a simple sketch.”

The power of good design is something that Puri acknowledges. “Good design affects people positively,” he says. According to him, quality of space matters, along with the quality of light and ventilation. “Getting in natural light is actually beneficial to the way you think and way you feel.”

Inspired by the power of great design, which has the potential to affect people positively, Tiaara by Artize is a bold expression of fine sculptural arts. Its innovative and dynamic design, where a gentle sideways movement of the spout brings forth water, is loved by design connoisseurs.
